How My Life, Values, and Experiences Led Me to Protect My Community’s Waterways

Most people don’t think twice about their trash bins. I did — and that simple observation changed the direction of my life and the cleanliness of my community.

Today, I’m the founder of Crystal Clear Bins, an environmentally responsible sanitation company serving Eastern North Carolina. But long before I ever cleaned a bin, I was learning the values that would shape my mission: stewardship, responsibility, and the belief that small actions protect the world around us.

This is my story — the story behind the person writing this blog.

A Childhood Built on Environmental Responsibility

I didn’t learn about environmental responsibility from textbooks — I learned it through lived experience and the values my parents taught me. My parents are deeply involved in regenerative agriculture and continue teaching environmental conservation today. At T.L Storer Ranch they created a after school program, and a day camp, they teach kids hand on agricultural and trade based skills. T.L Storer Ranch provides children five to 17 years of age two different programs; SOAR After-School that assists students with homework, outdoor recreation, STEM-based ecosystem exploration, and wilderness survival skills across the 1,000 acre campus. The Storer Ranchers 4-H Club teaches vocational skills and land stewardship, technical training into mechanical trades, regenerative agriculture, and daily care of livestock found on the ranch. Some of the most meaningful lessons came from my mother. She used to take me and my siblings around town to pick up trash and collect cans. We’d bring the cans to the local recycling center to earn a few dollars — but the real reward was learning that:

• Cleaning up your town matters.
• Every piece of trash makes a difference.

Those early experiences planted the seeds for my lifelong commitment to environmental responsibility.

Life involved in The Boy Scouts of America

My time in the Boy Scouts of America shaped me in ways I’m still grateful for today. I didn’t just earn merit badges — I learned how to lead, how to serve, and how to care for the world around me. Scouting gave me a foundation of responsibility and environmental awareness that still guides every decision I make. From the very beginning, the outdoors was my classroom. I learned how to build a fire responsibly, how to navigate trails, how to respect wildlife, and how to leave every place cleaner than I found it. Those lessons weren’t just rules — they became part of who I am. As I advanced through the ranks, the expectations grew. Leadership wasn’t about giving orders; it was about setting the example. Service wasn’t a requirement; it was a mindset. And environmental stewardship wasn’t a badge; it was a duty.

Earning the rank of Eagle Scout was one of the most defining moments of my life. It represented years of commitment, discipline, and community service. It taught me:

• How to take responsibility for my actions
• How to lead with integrity
• How to serve without expecting anything in return
• How to protect the environment through everyday choices
• How to turn values into action

Scouting didn’t just teach me outdoor skills — it taught me how to be a better human being. It taught me that small actions matter, that communities thrive when people step up, and that protecting the environment is everyone’s responsibility.

Those lessons are the backbone of Crystal Clear Bins. They’re the reason I care so deeply about stormwater, runoff, and keeping our neighborhoods clean, and they’re the reason I believe that one person — or one clean bin — really can make a difference.

Why I Started Crystal Clear Bins

People sometimes assume I started Crystal Clear Bins because I wanted to run a business — but that couldn’t be further from the truth. I started it because I saw a problem in my community that no one was addressing, and I couldn’t ignore it. When I moved out of the base into residential living, I noticed something that bothered me every single week: trash bins were filthy, overflowing with bacteria, attracting pests, and leaking waste into the street. But what bothered me even more was what happened when it rained. I watched dirty water wash out of those bins, run down driveways, and disappear into storm drains. And I knew exactly where those storm drains led — straight into our creeks, rivers, and coastal waterways. I realized something simple but important:

Dirty bins weren’t just a nuisance — they were a source of pollution.

I started looking for a company that could clean them responsibly, using water‑recovery systems and proper wastewater disposal. But there wasn’t one. Not a single affordable, environmentally responsible option in the entire area. That didn’t sit right with me. I’ve always believed that if you see a problem and you have the ability to fix it, you should. That’s something I learned from my parents, from working on a ranch, and from earning Eagle Scout — service, responsibility, and stewardship aren’t just words. They’re actions.

So I decided to step up.

I built Crystal Clear Bins with a simple mission: to protect our waterways, support our community, and make environmental responsibility easy for families.

I invested in equipment that captures and recycles water. I learned the regulations for proper wastewater disposal. I built a service model that was affordable, reliable, and environmentally safe. And I committed to educating the community about why clean bins matter — not just for sanitation, but for the health of our rivers and coastal ecosystems.

I didn’t start this business to wash bins. I started it to protect the place I call home.

Every clean bin is one less source of runoff pollution. Every customer is one more family making a positive environmental choice. Every route I run is one more step toward cleaner neighborhoods and cleaner waterways.

Who I Am Behind the Business

Behind Crystal Clear Bins, I’m just someone who genuinely cares about this community and the environment we all share. I don’t just clean bins — I try to make a difference wherever I can. I create free educational flyers, comics, and activity books because I want families and kids to understand how their everyday choices affect our waterways. Teaching environmental responsibility shouldn’t cost anyone a dime.

And when I’m out on my routes, I don’t ignore the things that aren’t “part of the job.” If I see trash blowing around, I pick it up. If a storm drain is blocked, I clear it. If something could cause runoff pollution, I take care of it. Not because I’m paid to — but because it’s the right thing to do. For me, this business isn’t just about clean bins. It’s about cleaner neighborhoods, cleaner water, and a community that feels proud of the place we call home.
